Born in Zambia, Leslie Baragwanath completed ballet and all dance genres at Bush Davies School in London in 1969. On returning to South Africa, Baragwanath joined PACOFS Ballet Company under Ballet Master Frank Staff and danced professionally until commencing her teaching career. She also worked as a freelance choreographer for productions during this time. Baragwanath worked hand in hand with Pathways to Africa in Limpopo province in promoting dance, having established a large studio in Polokwane in the late 1970s.
Baragwanath relocated to Gauteng and started a new chapter by completing a basic Pilates instructor qualification as well as qualifying as a Fitness League instructor in 2003. She remain involved in the ballet world through freelance choreography, teaching, and adjudicating festivals and competitions, such as Concours.
